DREAM ON: FLIGHT OF THE PEDALBEE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. In this episode, Lu asks Martin how Whitestone's new self-help book is coming along. Martin is forced to tell her that he "killed" the book -- but Lu catches him in his lie. An angry Lu tells Martin that he must deliver her a self-help book, lest she fire him. Martin wants Toby to locate him one that's ready to publish, but Toby is depressed and experiencing "ennui." Martin even enlists Eddie's help, but he is of no use either. Ultimately, Martin and Toby each end up watching infomercials at home and simultaneously discover a television self-help guru, Beverly Robinson, who promotes the power of the "butterfly within." Quickly, Martin meets with Beverly, but she doesn't seem interested in a book deal. Meanwhile, Toby has gotten some pep back in her step due to Beverly's tapes. After Martin pulls off a ruse on Lu in front of her, Beverly agrees to sign with Whitestone. Beverly reveals that she likes Martin's style and quickly the two are making love. The next day, Martin arrives at work to find that Toby's butterfly has come out of its cocoon -- in the form of a glitzy tap dancer. Martin makes fun of Toby, but Beverly tells him he has to support her decisions. Now, Martin has a part-time secretary as Toby puts the emphasis on her tap career. Martin is furious at Toby, and Beverly is upset at Martin for his belief that she is misleading people. Beverly subsequently dictates the details of her book's publicity tour to Martin, as well as her refusal to continue her book series at Whitestone. Later, Martin attends Toby's one-night-only tap performance, where her potential manager fails to show up. Afterward, Martin goes backstage to present Toby with flowers and congratulate her. She reveals that it felt good to become a "butterfly," if only for one night. Finally, Martin uses Beverly's book to break out of his own cocoon and dust off his half-written novel.
