DREAM ON: UP THE RIVER (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a publishing company employee named Martin Tupper whose thoughts become animated through black-and-white clips of old television shows. In this episode, Martin is angered that his landlord continues to ignore a hole in the brick wall of his apartment. Later, Martin is upset that Nina has an array of causes she must tend to every night. Judith, Jeremy, and Eddie offer their opinions on Martin and Nina's conflict-plagued relationship. One night, Nina cooks a romantic dinner for Martin, but he is distressed by the strange ingredients she uses. However, Martin is surprised by how good her food actually tastes. That night, a crisis arises for Nina's fellow protesters and Nina goes to join them over Martin's objections. Meanwhile, Martin and Eddie try to teach Jeremy how to dance in order to impress a girl. The next day, Martin and Nine attend Eddie's show. There, Nina is surprised to see that the guest is Harry Loefler, the man whose factory she's been trying to close for "dumping toxic sludge into the Hudson for years." During the question-and-answer portion of the show, Nina voices her opinion toward him. This leads to Martin and Nina getting into a huge spat over their differences. On the verge of dumping Nina, Martin returns home to find her teaching Jeremy how to dance. Later, police arrive at Martin's apartment, wanting to arrest Nina for having used Martin's loose bricks to block a waste pipe at Harry's plant, causing fifteen million in damages. Nina readily admits her guilt, leading to a final, decidedly bittersweet parting for the two lovers.
