SAGWA, THE CHINESE SIAMESE CAT: TUNG THE SINGING CRICKET/SAGWA'S LUCKY BAT (TV)

Summary

One in this animated series -- based on a children's book by Amy Tan and Gretchen Schields -- about playful feline, Sagwa. In "Tung the Singing Cricket," Sagwa loses a bet after the annoying singing of the Foolish Magistrate's pet cricket distracts her from a balancing act. In fact, the cricket's singing is annoying everyone in town, except for the Foolish Magistrate who thinks Tung sings with "the voice of a thousand angels." Eventually, the Magistrate's wife Tai-Tai takes matters into her own hands and gets rid of the cricket. The Magistrate is torn up and Sagwa is confused at Tung's funeral. However, walking off to play by the pond, Sagwa is stunned to find Tung still alive, as he explains to the cat what actually happened to him. Sagwa and Tung then scheme to make Tai-Tai rectify the situation. In between episodes, Sagwa discusses the joys of tumbling and talks about the art of Chinese acrobatics. Also, an American child discusses a soccer triumph, after which the sport the sport of Double Dutch jump-roping is examined. Next, in "Sagwa's Lucky Bat," the perpetually late-running bat Fu-Fu rescues Sagwa after finding the cat hanging upside down by her tail from the rafters in a tall dwelling. Eventually, the cat and bat decide to turn the structure's attic into their own clubhouse. Then, Sagwa reminisces about meeting her "best friend" Fu-Fu, who rescued her from an ash pot in which she was once stuck. Finally, in "Sheegwa: the Younger Sister," Sagwa talks about her kitten sister. This program is closed-captioned.
