NOSOLOMUSICA {NOT ONLY MUSIC} {SPANISH} (TV)
Summary
One in this magazine series that covers the latest
trends in music, but also fashion, art, and nightlife,
on a worldwide scale. The program's host, Kay Rush,
presents each section, introducing briefly the stories
covered by different reporters. The program begins with
a story by reporter Ana Solanes about the music inspired
by the Calabrese mafia -- songs about honor, respect,
romanticism, and power. The report presents musicians,
former mafia members, music producers, and politicians
talking about the hidden world of the mafia which
dominated the area for over a century, and how this
world is captured in the lyrics of the songs. People
interviewed in the story are Mimmo Siclari, album
producer; Saveria, singer; Diego, musician; Francesco
Sbano, photographer and producer from Calabria;
Valentino, musician; Lucio Cortese, communist party
secretary of Paola; Maestro Ciccio "Uomo d’onore,"
former member of the mafia; and Don Pino Strangio,
parish priest of San Luca. The next section, presented
by Kay Rush, is called "Human Sounds." Images show
different styles of sound, music, and dance from
Taroudent, Morocco; Maputo, Mozambique; Valle del Elqui,
Chile; Vienna, Austria; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and New
Orleans, USA. Reporter Patricia Schilk presents the
next story from the famous Madrid concert hall "El Sol."
Singer Manuel Malou speaks of his music, his movie
soundtracks, and the surprise performance held in this
location. The owner of "El Sol," Ignacio Moreno de los
R’os, is also interviewed. In the next story, reporter
G. Colomina introduces some new American female
vocalists that blend jazz, soul, funk, and other styles,
focusing on Norah Jones and her singles "Come Away
with Me" and "Don't Know Why." Other artists featured
are Diana Krall with "A Case of You"; Gabriela Anders,
singing "Cool Again"; and Jane Monheit, singing "Cheek
to Cheek." Reporter Roc’o Westendorp presents the next
story, titled "Landscapes." From Ait Ben Haddou,
Morocco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, she speaks about
the different movies filmed there, including Ridley
Scott's "Gladiator" and Bernardo Bertolucci's "The
Sheltering Sky," and interviews Khadija Alami, a
production director who is working on a British film,
and Joussef Aid Maleck, a resident of Ait Ben Haddou.
The last story is presented by reporter Roc’o Sierra,
from Sao Paulo, Brazil, the location of the 5th annual
Red Bull Music Academy for deejays. For two weeks the
participants live, eat, play, practice, and grow
together. Some of the people interviewed are Teboho
Choto, participant; Liam Nabb, designer for Liquid
Works; Sergi Noe, "DJ Search"; Jane Conneely, "DJ
Storm"; Many Ameri, director of the Red Bull Academy;
Louise Oldfield, producer for Liquid Works; Torsten
Schmidt, organizer of the Red Bull Academy; Alioscia,
"Mr. X," talent recruiter; and Brian Cross, photographer
and director of documentaries "Keepintime" and
"Brazilian Time."
