BROOKLYN BRIDGE: THE LAST IMMIGRANT (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic series about a middle-class Jewish family living in Brooklyn, New York, in the 1950s.
In this episode, Phyllis prepares the males of the house for Cousin Jacob's arrival from Poland. Then, Jacob arrives but Nathaniel thinks he is a kidnapper offering candy. Sophie is stunned to see Jacob, and soon the Silvers are toasting to life. Jacob can't help himself from kissing everyone in glee. Jacob is impressed by how much food they have. Later, Jacob reads a Lone Ranger story to Nathaniel. Sophie starts to think about matchmaking for Jacob. That night, Jacob is restless and unable to sleep, crying in thought.
By the next day, Jacob is impressed by all Brooklyn has to offer. Alan wonders what happened to Jacob's wife and two sons, but Phyllis and Jules refuse to tell him. Out shopping with Sophie, Jacob meets Mrs. Kaminsky but Sophie decides that she "won't do." Jacob has no interest in meeting a new woman, still committed to his former wife. Later, Alan tells Sid that Jacob has a secret, but Sid tells him to quit poking around.
That afternoon, Alan questions why Jacob is staring at the sunset. Over Sophie's objections, Jacob tells Alan about having to miss the sunsets while at the Treblinka concentration camp. Later, his wife and two boys perished at the hands of the Nazis. He tells Alan of the last time that he saw them. Sophie admits to feeling guilty about not insisting that Jacob and his family leave Poland before it was too late. Afterward, Alan tells George how much he appreciates the beautiful sunset, as Sophie silently watches it from an upstairs window. Commercials deleted. This program is closed-captioned.
