DANCING WITH THE STARS {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in this live dance competition series in which celebrities partner with professional ballroom dancers and face off against each other. Host Tom Bergeron explains that the five-week competition will feature six stars: former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield; supermodel Rachel Hunter, pop singer Joey McIntyre, "General Hospital" star Kelly Monaco, actor John O'Hurley, and reality star Trista Sutter. Next, Bergeron and co-host Lisa Canning introduce the stars who come out onto the dance floor. The co-hosts explain that tonight the stars have to dance a waltz or a cha-cha-cha. First, McIntyre talks about the opportunity to learn "traditional" dancing and his professional partner Ashley DelGrosso discusses her one-time crush on McIntyre from his days as a New Kids on the Block member. Then, the two dance the cha-cha-cha to Beyonce's "Crazy in Love." Judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli score them a combined twenty points out of a possible thirty. Bergeron then explains that viewers should call in to vote for their favorite couple, which will determine the other half of each score. The lowest scoring couple, Bergeron continues, will be knocked out on the following week's show. Next, Hunter details how she got involved with the program to impress her children while her professional partner Jonathan Roberts discusses Hunter's lack of focus. Then, the two dance the waltz to The Commodores' "Three Times a Lady." The judges score them a combined twenty out of thirty. Next, Holyfield talks about getting out of his "bubble" to dance while his professional partner Edyta Sliwinska talks about her "dangerous" stage persona. Then, the two dance the cha-cha-cha to Aretha Franklin's "Respect." The judges score them a combined eighteen out of thirty. Next, Monaco explains wanting to get out of her comfort zone while her professional partner Alec Mazo talks about the importance of looks in the dance world. Then, the two dance the waltz to Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing." The judges score them a combined thirteen out of thirty. Next, O'Hurley talks about his wife inspiring him to learn dance while his professional partner Charlotte Jorgensen explains that she's "the Grace Kelly of the ballroom dance world." Then, the two dance the cha-cha-cha to Earth, Wind, and Fire's "September." The judges score them a combined twenty out thirty, making it currently a three-way tie for first. Next, Sutter talks about the criticism of reality stars while her professional partner Louis van Amstel talks about being a "living legend." Then, the two dance the waltz to Norah Jones's "Come Away With Me." The judges score them a combined eighteen out of thirty, tying them for fourth place. Bergeron recaps all the participants' dances, takes one more look at the judge's scores, and again encourages home viewers to help determine which pair will be eliminated on the next program. Includes commercials.
