KYLE XY: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The pilot in this drama series centering on Kyle, an extraordinarily gifted young man with no memory of his past. The program begins as a teenager-in-appearance awakens naked in the forest, covered in an embryonic-like fluid, disoriented, with no idea who he is. After he wanders into the city, the police pick him up as he stands naked in traffic. Taken to a juvenile detention facility, the boy is even more confused by his surroundings. Meanwhile, psychologist Nicole Trager tries to awaken her daughter, Lori -- secretly bunking with her boyfriend, Declan McDonough -- and son, Josh. Then, Nicole gets a call informing her about the mysterious youth. At the facility, the boy finds none of his fellow inmates talking to him as he tries to learn how to quash hunger. Later, he gets punched in the facility's yard by the bullying Skeeter, who draws blood. Then Nicole arrives to speak with "John Doe," who she dubs "Kyle." Via his amazing artistic abilities, Kyle shows Nicole a picture of where he came from and what he has seen. Nicole also learns from facility supervisor Lou Daniels that Kyle has no navel. Then, Nicole decides to bring Kyle home with her, upsetting Lori and Josh. Kyle is mystified by the Tragers' home and all of its strange possessions. During a TV report's update on a girl who was just found on a beach with no memory, Kyle hears "the most beautiful sound in the world" and goes searching for it. He soon finds a neighbor, Amanda Bloom, playing the piano. Back in the Trager home, Kyle has awkward encounters with both Lori and Josh. That night, Nicole's husband, Stephen, returns from work and Kyle finds him a "superior communicator" as Stephen gesticulates to make his thoughts known. Later, Carol Bloom comes by to chastise Nicole for having brought Kyle into the neighborhood, but Amanda remains intrigued. At dinner, Kyle finally speaks, parroting phrases he heard from earlier in the day. Nicole is amazed, though unsure if Kyle understands what he's saying. The next day, Nicole tests Kyle's intelligence, finding it to be off the charts. Later, scientists find that he is a super genius with incredible brain activity. That night, Kyle goes wandering around the neighborhood, ultimately ending up at Declan's party, which Lori also attends. There, Kyle finds the party to be "hell," especially when the police arrive. Eventually he runs through a glass window, shocking and amazing everyone as he barely gets a scratch. Then, when a police officer tries to cuff him, Kyle uses his extraordinary instincts to steal the cuffs and soon takes control of the situation. His efforts greatly impress the other teens. Kyle returns home -- carrying a drunken Lori -- and Nicole and Josh are confused about his scratches. By now, Kyle has begun to wonder what, exactly, he is. The next day, Lori recalls that Kyle carried her home the previous night. Meanwhile, Kyle admits to Nicole that he is scared of everything around him. Later, Nicole asks Stephen if she can focus more of her attention on Kyle's case. At the same time, a mysterious man continues watching Kyle from a truck, studying Kyle's photo and file from the shelter. Later, Kyle impresses Stephen with his computer skills and Josh with his basketball prowess. Eventually, the Tragers find themselves content with Kyle staying with them for an extended period. Includes commercials and promos.
