BROTHERS & SISTERS: SOMETHING IDA THIS WAY COMES
Summary
One in this drama series about the California-based Walker family, an adult clan of siblings trying to live up to their parents' lofty expectations after the death of the family patriarch.
In this episode, the Walkers celebrate Nora's sixtieth birthday in a low-key manner, not quite the way she had imagined it. However, the Walkers actually plan to surprise their mother the very next day with a big party. Meanwhile, Kevin continues his secret relationship with Chad, who worries that it would be "career suicide" for him if anyone found out that he's gay. At the same time, Joe convinces Sarah to take part in a sex video with him, though they're supposed to be taping their video testimonial for Nora's birthday.
The next day, Nora's mother Ida arrives in town, startling and then angering Nora after the beans are spilled about the surprise party. Ida wastes no time in needling Nora. Meanwhile, Sarah gets sick with the flu, throwing the evening's party in disarray as she was to prepare all the party's food. Now, the Walkers are forced to scramble to find a caterer. Eventually, Senator McCallister offers to let Kitty use his own small catering staff, which leads to Kitty inviting him to join the forty-plus guests, though they're "mostly Democrats," at the party.
Meanwhile, Tommy is forced to serve as Justin's chaperone so that he may leave the rehab facility for the evening -- though they are told to ban alcohol at the party. Party plans are thrown into further chaos when Kevin realizes that a medieval-themed party package was ordered, rather than the mid-level package. At that point, the senator's "thug" security detail arrives. Despite, the bumps in the road, the party starts off fairly well. However, Nora continues to struggle in dealing with her mother. Also, Nora and Kevin get to know the senator a little better, whether they want to or not.
The party becomes a disaster when Nora's video -- accidentally featuring Joe and Sarah's videoed sex romp -- is shown. Later, Kitty and her boss manage to do some drinking in the closet, where the senator tries to get her to break her "man fast." Having snuck away from the party, Justin apologizes to Taylor for his past treatment of her. Eventually, Nora and Saul tell Ida the truth about William, Justin, and Kevin -- and, what they all really think of her. Afterward, Nora has a heart-to-heart with her mother. The next day, Kevin tells Chad how he truly feels about their secret relationship before he suffers his own flu symptoms. Soon, many in the Walker clan are sick, needing Nora's care. Includes commercials.
