CBS REPORTS: THE SILENT SPRING OF RACHEL CARSON (TV)

Summary

One in this series of irregularly scheduled in-depth reports. This program examines the controversy about the use of chemical pesticides stirred up by Rachel Carson's book, "Silent Spring." Carson and representatives from the chemical industries and the Food and Drug Administration present their points of view about whether or not pesticides endanger plant, animal and human life on this planet. Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman and Dr. John Buckley, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Research director, are among the government spokesmen heard. Appearing on behalf of industry is Dr. Robert White-Stevens of American Cyanamid's Research Division.
