Part one of two. The fifteenth anniversary of this series of variety programs presided over by Ed Sullivan. This special program includes the following segments from previous programs: a scene from "Mister Roberts" with Henry Fonda, James Cagney, and Jack Lemmon (1955); Gertrude Lawrence sings a snippet from "I Whistle a Happy Tune" from "The King and I" with Richard Rodgers at the piano and Oscar Hammerstein II looking on (1951); Gary Cooper and Rod Steiger in a scene from "The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell" (1955); Sullivan sings "Sweet Adeline" with Gary Cooper, with Louis Armstrong on trumpet; in Utah, Sullivan talks with Raoul Walsh and Clark Gable; Walt Disney and Donald Duck demonstrate animation techniques to Sullivan at the Disney studio (1953); Jack Benny asks Sullivan the secret of his success (1954); Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters are shown in a scene from "The Night of the Hunter"; Phil Silvers clowns with Bing Crosby (1956); Jackie Gleason and Art Carney appear in a bakery sketch with (1952); Fred Astaire dances and sings to "That Face" (1957); Helen Hayes talks about her role in "Victoria Regina" (1951); Red Skelton is shown in a doctor pantomime (1956); Cole Porter recalls his first flop in 1916 (1952); Maurice Chevalier and Sophie Tucker sing "I Remember It Well" from "Gigi" (1958); the Moiseyev Dancers; Charles Laughton does a Bible reading; Jimmy Durante and Sonny King sing "Baby Mine" (1958); Elvis Presley sings "Hound Dog" (1956); from "Camelot," Robert Goulet sings a snippet from "If Ever I Would Leave You" and Richard Burton and Julie Andrews sing "What Do the Simple Folk Do?"
