HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: THE TEMPEST (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramatic specials presented by Hallmark. This production of Shakespeare's last play uses elaborate sets to reflect the dream world themes of this work. "The Tempest" concerns Prospero, the exiled duke of Milan, who works to control the inhabitants of the island he now inhabits. Intent upon gaining revenge for losing his dukedom, he uses his magical powers to conjure a storm that brings his brother, the current duke, and his fellow travelers to the island. Helped by sprite Ariel but hindered by brutish native Caliban, Prospero arranges a match for his daughter Miranda with one of the visitors but is almost derailed by his passion for vengeance. Commercials deleted.
