STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, THE: REQUIEM FOR MURDER (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas concerning the investigations of Mike Stone and Steve Keller of the San Francisco homicide division. In this episode, Stone and Keller investigate the shooting of Bishop Farrow, who happens to be a close friend of Stone's. Their first clue is an anonymous letter from an anti-religion crusader that turns out to be a false lead. To make matters more complicated, the recovering Bishop Farrow refuses to tell Stone who shot him. A witness states that a woman ran out of the bishop's quarters after the shooting and sped away in a car. Keller believes the woman is named Ellen Simms and tries to ascertain her connection with Bishop Farrow. Another suspect is a priest with a checkered past, Father Wilson, who was arguing with the bishop about money. Upon Farrow's release from the hospital, he tells his shocked staff that he will be stepping down from his post immediately. Stone and Keller believe that Farrow's assailant is pressuring him to resign. As the bishop prays alone in church, gunfire explodes and kills him. To determine why Farrow resigned and why he was killed, Stone and Keller talk to Simms and learn that the bishop had deep affection for her. And, as they question Farrow's staff, they learn that Father Wilson may have stolen money from the church's account -- but a clue reveals that Wilson was not the assailant. In a strange twist, the real assailant confesses to the murder, asserting that the reasons were obvious and wholesome. Commercials deleted.
