Summary
One in this series of New York Philharmonic programs intended for young audiences and featuring musical analysis interspersed with performance. In this program from Carnegie Hall, the following works are performed: Seiji Ozawa conducts the overture to "The Marriage of Figaro" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Maurice Peress conducts "Prayer" for double-bass and orchestra by Ernest Bloch with soloist Gary Karr (double-bass); John Canarina conducts Gary Karr playing double-bass in place of the violin solos in Victor Reinschagen's transcription of Niccolo Paganini's "Fantasy on a Theme from the Opera 'Moses in Egypt'" based on the opera by Gioacchino Rossini; and Bernstein discusses and conducts "The Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saens and featuring the guest soloists. Commercials deleted.
