Summary
The premiere episode in this series about a widower seeking to reclaim the joys of bachelorhood who moves in with his uptight son and daughter-in-law. In this two-act episode, Thomas Maddison cannot contain his joy at the death of his controlling wife who had denied him women, gambling, and liquor throughout their marriage. When son Richard off-handedly invites his father to stay with him and his wife Harriet in London, Tom happily accepts, much to Harriet's dismay. Newly liberated in the big city, Tom spends his nights in the nightclubs and casinos and pre-dawn hours waking Tom, Harriet, and the neighbors when he returns home. After Harriet delivers an ultimatum -- either Tom leaves or she does -- Tom promises to behave himself, but a night at home alone is too much temptation. When Harriet comes home to a house full of loose women, she orders Tom to leave, but it is too late -- during his London sojourn, Tom's Cornwall house was sold, leaving him with nowhere to stay but Dick and Harriet's London flat.
