LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN {MADONNA} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by David Letterman. In the 1,000th program of the series (aired during the writer's strike), featured guests are actress/comedienne Sandra Bernhard, reggae musician Jimmy Cliff, three-year-old skateboarder Danny Kramer, and Madonna, as an unbilled surprise guest, her first appearance on the show. Letterman asks Bernhard about her supposed friendship with Madonna, who then appears on stage, identically dressed, as evidence of their close friendship. Madonna jokingly accuses Bernhard of using her to get to her husband, actor Sean Penn. In the spirit of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, the topic for the Top Ten List is "Things That Would Delight and Amaze Our Founding Forefathers." Commercials deleted (Paul Shaffer's band plays music through the commercial breaks). (Audio of pre-airtime audience warmup session can be heard at the beginning of this tape.)
