LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN {SONNY AND CHER} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by David Letterman. On this program, the scheduled guests are Sonny Bono and Cher. During his monologue, Letterman hints that he'll try to get the two to sing together on stage for the first time in almost ten years. Highlights of the program include: the Top Ten List category, "Terrifying Thoughts That Come to You As You're Falling Asleep"; Letterman opens up the Late Night mailbag to read some "Viewer Mail," a regular installment of the show; one letter disturbs bandleader Paul Shaffer so much that he walks off the set only to be enticed back with some Rice Krispie Treats; Flunky the Late Night Viewer Mail Clown makes an appearance; a disgruntled employee, who was fired on the air by Letterman, appears on The Phil Donahue Show; the first guest is Sonny Bono who discusses thoughts about being a father for the fourth time, his marriage, the upcoming election for mayor of Palm Springs for which he is a candidate, and when he last made a public appearance with Cher; Cher is introduced and she sings the first single, "Since You've Been Gone," from her new album; joining Sonny and Letterman, she recalls how she met Sonny and when they started performing together; Letterman practically begs them to sing together one more time; and finally taking the stage together, Sonny and Cher sing their classic song, "I Got You Babe." Commercials deleted.
