DIRTY SEXY MONEY: THE PLAN (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about a troubled lawyer whose life is overtaken by his employers: a super-rich, morally-challenged family in New York City. In this episode, Karen is furious about the end of her would-be marriage to Simon, and Nick learns that Ellen's brother Chase has resurfaced, sure that Patrick murdered his wife. Chief-of-staff Nola plans Patrick's inauguration, annoyed to find that he is still mooning over Carmelita. Simon secretly summons Nola and demands that she steal information about the EPA's refusal to approve his biofuel plan, and Andrea forces a heartbroken Brian to face the truth of her impending death. Patrick catches Nola and "hired help" Jeremy in a bitter argument and orders them to work out their obvious romantic feelings for one another, and when Nick tries to appeal to Chase, Chase coldly informs him that he has lost his wife and children and now cares only about finding justice for Ellen. Chase then tracks down Carmelita, angrily declaring that Patrick murdered Ellen for her sake.

Nola admits her ongoing feelings for Jeremy but declares that a relationship would be far too "complicated," and Patrick is thrilled when Carmelita suddenly reappears and tells him about Chase's frightening visit. He assures her that he will "take care of it," while elsewhere Brian confronts his father and bitterly quits the family business, feeling that he has been pushed aside in favor of Nick and Simon one too many times. Tripp, Nola and Patrick consider placing Chase on a 72-hour psychiatric hold to prevent him from damaging Patrick's upcoming swearing-in, but Nick begs for another chance to talk him down, aware that Chase is in fact correct in suspecting foul play in Ellen's death. Nick tries to convince Chase to abandon his revenge mission and focus on his family, but when cops arrive to arrest him, an outraged Chase is sure that Nick betrayed him. Nick blows up at Tripp for manipulating him, though Tripp swears that he did not mastermind the trap and instead blames Nola. Elsewhere, Tish, in typical ruthless Darling fashion, advises Karen and Jeremy to go after Nick and Nola respectively. At lunch, Patrick invites Carmelita to stand by his side at the inauguration, declaring that he will go public with their relationship and start "a new life" together.

Brian encounters Bishop Bascombe at the hospital and declares that he is not returning to the church, while elsewhere Jeremy follows Nola and spots her meeting with Simon. When he confronts her, however, she desperately explains that Simon is not her lover and is instead blackmailing her with information about her missing brother. Brian visits a church and rails furiously at God, begging for Andrea's life. Jeremy asks Nick to help Nola and begins to describe her situation, but is interrupted by the arrival of Simon. Chase escapes his captors before they can commit him to the mental hospital, and Brian is shocked to learn that Andrea's condition is inexplicably improving, suggesting that his prayer worked. Chase arrives at Karen's home and holds her at gunpoint, angered to realize that she still "has a thing" for Nick, and Simon, having guessed that she told Jeremy about their "arrangement," threatens Nola with hints about her brother. Brian informs Bascombe that he has decided to return to the church after all – but now desires Bascombe's own job.

Patrick prepares for his "downright presumptuous" inauguration at Federal Hall, and Tripp is alarmed by his plans to commit "political suicide" by publicly introducing Carmelita. A badly injured Karen calls Nick and attempts to warn him about Chase, who has already arrived, disguised as a cop. Nick senses danger and tries to shut down the event, and chaos breaks out as Chase pulls his gun on the Darlings. Nick tackles him, but he gets off several shots, hitting an unknown person.
