MODERN FAMILY: HALLOWEEN (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Phil and Claire excitedly prepare for Halloween, their favorite holiday, and Mitchell dresses as Spider-man, having heard that his new firm has a whimsical attitude about costumes, though Cameron states that the day is difficult for him because of a past trauma. Claire rallies her family members into creating a "House of Horrors" for trick-or-treaters, though she is exasperated by Haley's parade of inappropriate costumes, and Jay is confused when Gloria explains that they will be dressing as a "gargle" and a "bruja." Mitchell is shocked to realize that almost no one else at work has dressed up and quickly dons a normal suit over his costume, though his busy morning prevents him from having time to fully change. Phil is upset when his neighbor Jerry is "blindsided" by his wife Judy's departure, fretful that Claire could someday do the same. Jay tells a frustrated Gloria that she occasionally makes "tiny little mistakes" when speaking English, and though Mitchell is humiliated when he is spotted in his costume by his entire office, Cam maintains that his terrible Halloween was worse.
In the evening, Claire's House of Horrors starts to fall apart when everyone is distracted by their own problems, though Phil is still determined to prove the strength of their marriage to her. The first few young visitors are unimpressed by the halfhearted "scares," and Cam finally tells the dramatic story of his embarrassing childhood incident, which involved wet pants and a Quasimodo outfit. Claire frantically explains why she loves the "crazy" holiday, and Jay smooths things over with Gloria by describing how he was charmed by her voice at their very first meeting. Phil admits that he was alarmed by Judy and Jerry's split, but Claire assures him that he is "stuck with her," and the two are thrilled when everyone else plays their "roles" perfectly and the trick-or-treaters are sufficiently scared. Later, everyone shares their favorite of Gloria's malapropisms, though Jay realizes too late that she is not enjoying the joke. Includes commercials and promos.
