PROJECT RUNWAY: ALL STARS: PATTERNING FOR PIGGY (TV)

Summary

One in this competitive reality series featuring former contestants on Bravo's "Project Runway," in which fashion designers compete in various challenges. In this episode, with eleven designers remaining, host Angela Lindvall presents this week's challenge: they are to create a flamboyant cocktail dress for a world–famous fashionista, the diva Miss Piggy, star of the new film "The Muppets." They are each given $150 to spend at Mood, a fabric and design store, and after spending a short time sketching, they head off to the store. Some designers opt for Miss Piggy's trademark pink, whereas others go for a more classic black. Gordana Gehlhausen designs a "free-flowing" pink dress, though Monda Guerra has his doubts about its appropriateness. Guerra and Kara Janx squabble over accessories and Janx wonders if she can "sex up" Miss Piggy with a provocative design. Rami Kashou works on his "flirty and colorful" dress, and Kenley Collins relies on her usual feminine, retro style. Mentor Joanna Coles arrives and inspects the designers' progress, wondering if Gehlhausen is putting comfort ahead of style with her dress and inquiring about Collins' use of giraffe print. She reminds Mila Hermanovski that Miss Piggy has prominent ears to consider and also talks with Austin Scarlett, who says that he and Miss Piggy are "kindred spirits." As the models come in, Hermanovski notes that Collins and Janx are oddly close friends despite being competitors, but everyone relaxes and shares a laugh later that night at the hotel.

The next day, the designers hurry to complete their dresses as the models return. Scarlett takes the accessories previously selected by Janx and Kashou worries about his design, though Collins is confident. After heading to hair and makeup, the designers and models arrive at the runway and Lindvall introduces the judges: fashion designer Georgina Chapman, "Gossip Girl" costume designer Eric Daman, and Miss Piggy herself. The models walk the runway in the designers' dresses and the judges take careful notes. Afterwards, Lindvall calls out the top three highest and lowest scorers and sends the others away, and the judges critique the various pros and cons of the designers' work, including Scarlett's use of large bows, Kashou's "garish" bright colors and polka dots, which greatly appeal to Miss Piggy, Michael Costello's dark, "gift-wrapped"-like dress, Hemanovski's simplistic '60s design and Collins' attention-grabbing print. The designers then leave and the judges discuss their preferences, though the haughty Miss Piggy dislikes Daman's suggestions of her wanting to disguise her prominent ears. The designers return and Costello is named the winner, much to his delight. Gehlhausen is eliminated, and she bids the other designers good-bye, encouraging other women of her age not to give up on their dreams despite the time required to raise a family, and committing to continuing her fashion efforts.
