DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APARTMENT 23: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this comedy series about Indiana native June Colburn and her adventures with her outrageous roommate Chloe in New York City. In this episode, June is horrified when she arrives home to find her roommate Chloe dallying with her fiancé Steven, though she hints that it turned out to be a positive development. One week earlier, June arrives from Indiana and excitedly tours her grand new company apartment, explaining that she has been relocated by her job, Buchwald Mortgage – but then learns that, thanks to her new boss' embezzling, she is now homeless and jobless. Determined to "make it" in New York anyway, she hunts for a new roommate and eventually meets the glamorous Chloe, who mentions that she is good friends with "Dawson's Creek" heartthrob James Van Der Beek. Delighted, June immediately decides to move in with her, though neighbor Robin offers a cryptic warning about "the bitch in apartment 23." June updates Steven, who is set to join her in New York upon finishing his degree, but Chloe begins acting bizarrely, walking around naked and inviting men over late at night. She converses with James and reveals that she is intentionally trying drive June out with her wacky behavior, as she has done with several other naïve big-city newcomers.
June, in the midst of job-hunting, is shocked to find that Chloe has scammed her on the rent and decides to sell Chloe's furniture to recoup the money. Chloe protests that her ottoman had sentimental value, however, so they attempt to buy it back from Robin, revealed to be Ousted Roommate #4, and then from the immigrant family to whom Robin sold it in turn. June manages to talk them into returning the item – but then finds that Chloe only wanted it back because of the drugs hidden within. Exasperated, she considers moving out, but is surprised by the arrival of Steven and his lab assistant, Nicole. A suspicious Chloe manipulates Jeremy, their young test subject, who quickly admits that Steven has been cheating on June with a variety of women. June, now working at a coffee shop alongside former Buchwald co-worker Mark, refuses to believe her, so Chloe intentionally seduces Steven – on June's birthday. June is shocked to walk in on them, but eventually concludes that Chloe has "saved her" from an unhappy life with a philandering husband, and the two resolves to remain roommates and friends. Includes commercials and promos.
