HAPPY ENDINGS: MAKIN' CHANGES! (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about six Chicago friends trying to keep their group together after a romantic upheaval.
In this episode, after a disastrous cross-country skiing incident, Jane points out that Penny frequently tries to change herself to accommodate men. She advises her to instead find a man and alter him to her liking, as she herself did Brad. Brad balks at this assertion, but Jane points out that he was an immature "college bonehead" when they met and benefited from her meddling. Brad and Alex, inspired by their love of "addiction shows," decide that Dave is unhealthily obsessed with V-neck shirts. Penny goes out with a sweet but sophomoric guy, Jeff, and Jane encourages her to manipulative him into improving his slovenly ways. Brad resolves to revive "Old Brad" and returns to his goofy, childish former ways. Penny slowly begins convincing Jeff to alter his lifestyle, including his wardrobe and his home décor. Max and Alex attempt to help Dave beat his "addiction," but the problem turns out to be more serious than they realized.
Jane points out that "Old Brad" would not partake of many of the things "New Brad" now enjoys, including a balanced diet, and Brad begins to reconsider his new-old persona. Jeff begins to catch on to Penny's scheming, but she points out that he is far more desirable to women in his newly suave state. Later, she is shocked when a made-over Jeff informs her that thanks to her ministrations, he has reunited with his ex-girlfriend and gotten engaged. Penny complains to Jane about the failed experiment. While flipping through an old photo album, Penny discovers that "Old Jane" was just as outrageous and juvenile as her husband. Several of Dave's "friends," as well as a drug counselor, surprise Dave with an "intervention," but he sincerely explains why he loves V-necks; Max and Alex are forced to apologize, admitting that they were "just bored." Jane dresses as "Old Jane" and makes amends with Brad, concluding that they naturally changed together over time. Penny fights her malleable instincts when she meets a cute guy at a bar. Dave arrives in a turtleneck, vowing to do better – but sadly "relapses" several days later. Includes commercials and promos.
