Summary
One in this series of daytime talk shows hosted by a multi-generational group of women, presided over by Barbara Walters, moderated by actress Whoopi Goldberg, and including comedian Sherri Shepherd and comedian Joy Behar. In this episode, the women are joined by ABC weatherman Sam Champion to discuss the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, the "once-in-a-lifetime" storm that devastated the East Coast over the previous weekend and is still active in other parts of the country. Champion shows an image of a tanker moored on a Staten Island street and comments on the effect of global warming on the storm's strength, explaining that it is hard to get federal funding for weather-related research. The hosts then discuss how they spent their weekend, admitting that it was easy to become slothful while at home thanks to the weather.
Turning to Halloween, the hosts discuss the declining popularity of "sexy" costumes for women; the history of handing out candy versus other, less sugary treats; how viewing scary movies can burn calories; and debate about a "Dancing With the Stars" competitor who was ousted from the competition despite receiving perfect scores from the judges. After presenting the audience with candy gift boxes, Shepherd describes her trip to the New York City "Times Scare" haunted house with her husband Sal, and her terrifying adventure is captured on night-vision cameras.
Next, comedian Jeff Ross takes the stage and discusses his reaction to Hurricane Sandy, which was to write jokes and "roast" the storm itself; his recent trip to Australia; and the renewal of his TV series "The Burn with Jeff Ross."
Finally, fashion expert Stacy Cox, dressed as Emily Maynard from "The Bachelorette," sits down with the hosts to discuss this year's popular Halloween costumes for kids and pets, including those of singer Katy Perry, characters from the Angry Birds game, characters from the children's film "Hotel Transylvania" (2012), ketchup and mustard bottles (complete with "wiener dog"), characters from "The Flintstones" and the titular reality star from "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" (née Alana Thompson).
