DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APARTMENT 23: LOVE AND MONSTERS . . . (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Indiana native June Colburn and her adventures with her outrageous roommate Chloe in New York City. In this episode, June happily prepares for her first Halloween as a single woman as James sends out invitations for his "positive" holiday party, admitting that he hates being scared. June then spots Chloe on a seemingly normal date at a chick-flick movie, and Chloe grudgingly admits that she has been dating Ben, a handsome director whom she met at James' previous non-scary Halloween party. June is delighted by the "perfect" couple, even when she meets Ben's slovenly friend Zonk, but Chloe then reveals that the entire relationship is a Halloween charade, explaining that she uses James' parties to zero in on annoying people whom she can "destroy" by exploiting their worst fears, which in Ben's case is his childhood abandonment by his mother. June is shocked by her callous behavior, sure that she really likes Ben, and vows to make them realize their true feelings.
At his party, James is outraged by Mark's "scary" costume as June tries to convince Chloe of her genuine feelings for Ben, but Chloe escapes with him back to his childhood home. She finds herself unable to cruelly dump him, however, at which point Ben reveals that he is not only secretly Australian, but has been on to her evil plan from the start and has turned the tables on her by forcing her to experience her own worst fear: "living a chick-flick" via their relationship. Chloe is horrified to have been outsmarted, and Eli tells June that she is playing the role of the sage best friend who will surely end up with the other "supporting character," Zonk. When Mark tries to convince James to get over his fear of scary things, he has an unpleasant revelation of his own about his relationship, and Zonk arrives at the coffee shop to tell June that Ben has real feelings for Chloe as well, meaning that Chloe must fulfill yet another cliché and chase him down at the airport. Chloe reveals that a wise "bee" clued her in to the plan, meaning that June does not fill the "quirky best friend" role after all, and Ben is bewildered when Chloe arrives in time to tell him of her true feelings for him before being hauled off by airport security, promising to see him in "the sequel." Later, June is annoyed to find that she and Zonk may be destined to reunite after all. Includes commercials and promos.
