BATES MOTEL: UNDERWATER (TV)

Summary

One in this drama/mystery series about the troubled Bates family and their motel in White Pine Bay, Oregon, a modern-day prequel to the novel "Psycho" by Robert Bloch and its 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film adaptation. In this episode, everyone watches in surprise as Shelby's corpse is removed from Norma's room, and Norma tells Sheriff Romero that Jake Abernathy must be the culprit. Dylan and Norman dispose of her mattress, and Norma angrily confronts a group of teenage trimmers smoking marijuana outside of their rooms, and though Dylan halfheartedly defends them, she declares that she hates her strange new life in White Pine Bay and that they are moving again. She tells Emma not to bother organizing the files in the office, adding that she should reprimand the teens if she catches them smoking again. She then receives a flower delivery with a cryptic note reading "see you soon," and she calls Romero again, sure that it is a message from Jake. Elsewhere, Norman experiences disturbing dreams in which he drowns Bradley in the bathtub, and the real Bradley asks Dylan for help in breaking into her father's old office, knowing that Gil is still angry about Jerry Martin's actions. Norma visits Matt and tells him that she wants to put the house back on the market as soon as possible, intending to get her money back and leave town.

At school, Miss Watson praises Norman's writing, telling him that he should submit his short story to a literary magazine. Pleased, Norman returns home with the newly-stuffed Juno in tow and tells an uncomfortable Norma that he likes his new school. He then researches drowning-themed dreams, admitting to Dylan that he has had visions of killing Bradley, but brushes them off as mere imagination. At the pot farm, Dylan asks Gil about Jerry's office, and Gil tells him that he may use it, though he is still clearly angry about the fire. Emma awkwardly confronts one of the trimmers, Gunner, and tells him not to smoke at the motel, saying that her job may depend on it. Miss Watson helps Norman to edit his story, complimenting his strong use of imagery and saying that he is an "old soul" who understands the hardships of life. Romero stops by the motel and explains that he can do little to catch Jake, as he provided fake information before disappearing, which angers Norma. Dylan updates Bradley and offers to search the office for her, saying that Gil will object to her presence, but she explains how she wants to feel close to her father's space and belongings in order to remember him, and he promises to help her sneak in.

Gunner leaves a pot cupcake for Emma, and she has a strong paranoid reaction when she eats it at work. Norma researches safe cities and suggests to Norman that they should move to Hawaii, but he angrily refuses to leave and says that she is "crazy" and causing all of their problems. Bradley and Dylan sneak into Jerry's office and are nearly shot by Remo, but Dylan explains the situation and Bradley quickly searches through her father's things, distressed to find love letters from an unknown woman, "B." Norma makes up with Norman, asking to sleep in his bed for the night, and he agrees. Later, he tells Miss Watson not to publish his story, as it would upset his mother, but she suggests, with odd intensity, that she does not need to know. Matt tells Norma that there is no market for her house and at best she will get half of her money back, and she reacts violently. When she gets back into her car, Jake appears in the backseat with a gun, stating that Shelby owed him $150,000 when he died and that she must now deliver it to him on the following day, threatening to kill Norma and her sons if she does not comply.
