BROTHERS & SISTERS: GLASS HOUSES {THIRD SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about the California-based Walker family, an adult clan of siblings trying to live up to their parents' lofty expectations after the death of the family patriarch.

In this episode, Kitty complains to Robert about the flowery letter detailing her qualifications as a mother, which she asked Sarah to write for inclusion in the material requested by adoption agencies. Kitty doesn't realize that it was actually penned by Nora due to Sarah's busy schedule. Across town, Holly tells Sarah and Saul that Ojai needs to cut its budget due to the pending merger, necessitating the firing of Kevin as the company's attorney. Unaware of the situation, Kevin's boss, Browne Carter, rewards Kevin's high-performance level by hinting at Kevin soon becoming a partner in the firm. He also gives Kevin the use of his Laguna Beach retreat for the upcoming weekend. In the meantime, Kevin pressures Doug Manning, William's old friend, to give him an address for William's illegitimate son, Ryan Lafferty. Upon getting a phone number for Ryan, he tells Nora and Sarah of his progress. Nora remains adamant that they not get in touch with Ryan, fomenting dissent from Sarah and Kevin. Shortly thereafter, Nora confronts Holly about the firing of Kevin, with Holly refusing to budge on the issue. Elsewhere, Rebecca asks Justin to keep their romance a secret from the family, though they're quickly discovered by Paige and Cooper.

The next day, Kevin and Scotty open up the beach house, having little privacy before the arrivals of Sarah, Paige, Cooper, Tommy, Julia, Elizabeth, Justin, Rebecca, Nora, Robert, and Kitty. Justin quickly realizes that Paige and Cooper are going to blackmail him, demanding that he do their bidding for the weekend in return for keeping his secret. Things escalate when Justin has to take responsibility for expensive -- now broken -- glass sculptures that Cooper accidentally smashed. Meanwhile, Nora pleads with Tommy to convince Holly not to fire Kevin. However, Tommy admits that it was his idea, a concept which appalls Nora. Elsewhere, Kitty tricks Sarah into admitting that Nora wrote the letter, a development that escalates into a major fight between the sisters. As a family free-for-all ensues, Justin blurts out that he and Rebecca are dating, after which Kevin reveals the truth about Ryan, and Sarah tells Kevin that Tommy is firing him. An angry Rebecca subsequently drives to her new apartment; Robert won't let Sarah talk with the still-hurt Kitty; and Kevin refuses to accept Tommy's explanations for his actions.

Following the disastrous weekend's wrap-up, Rebecca reluctantly agrees to let Justin help her paint her apartment; Kevin admits to a very unhappy Browne about his family having damaged furnishings in the beach house and that he has been fired from Ojai; and Sarah delivers the letter to Kitty that she should have initially written. Kitty says that the adoption agency's deadline has passed, and that they still have a trust issue to be resolved. Later, however, Kitty reads the letter and tells Robert that she hopes things will turn around with Sarah. Finally, Nora returns to Holly's office. Trying to hurt Holly due to Kevin being fired, Nora tells her that William had another lover who gave birth to Ryan, leaving Holly thunderstruck. Includes commercials.
