TREME: TIPITINA {THIRD SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The third season finale in this dramatic series about a group of New Orleans residents and their attempts to rebuild their lives in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In this episode, LaDonna attempts to clean up the burned-out Gigi's, aware that her rapists were also the arsonists. Toni is excited when L.P. shows her his published exposé, and Colson furiously beats up the corrupt Sibly outside the precinct. Davis recruits Cheeky Blakk to help him record a profane and funny "I Quit" song about his anger at the music industry, and Annie attends an album release party in New York and has a one-night stand with a guest. Davis delivers copies of his new album, complete with "bonus track," at the music store, and Kermit asks him to fill in for a missing pianist at a well-paying gig. Toni treats Colson's bruised hand and assures that L.P.'s story will make a serious difference, though he dismisses her claims as "naïve." Antoine tells LaDonna that her many friends and regulars are planning a benefit event to raise money for Gigi's, set to take place right before Jazzfest. Feeny informs an exasperated Janette that Desautel's will now offer a Sunday "jazz brunch," and she counters that she is removing the crawfish ravioli from the menu. Antoine makes further plans to help his students, feeling that they need "a little extra" to develop their talents, and Delmond meets with Mayfield and the other developers about the forthcoming museum. When they seem resistant to remove the fence surrounding Armstrong Park, he hints that Albert may donate his costumes to the rival House of Dance and Feathers museum instead.

The N.O.P.D. surveils L.P. as he talks with the Glover family and with Tanner, Janette vents her frustrations on her cooks and on hostess Tabitha, and Desiree watches happily as the news reports on the NOAH scandal, exposed in part by her own efforts. Kermit and Davis play at a bar mitzvah celebration and are impressed when young Elliott jumps in on "Tipitina," and Delmond is disappointed when Albert voices his skepticism about Mayfield's plans, saying that money is not enough to improve the city. Colson challenges Marsden to actually investigate L.P.'s claims, though Marsden retorts that he would be wise to quit after the incident with Silby. LaDonna testifies in court against her attacker, and Davis is taken aback to learn that Kermit asked his pianist to give up the bar mitzvah job as a favor. Feeny chastises Janette for her brusque behavior and informs her that she cannot host the Gigi's benefit at the restaurant, and Antoine proudly watches on television as Desiree, Karen and many others head into town to protest disgraced Mayor Ray Nagin's reception of a leadership award. Colson and Toni finally consummate their long-budding relationship, and Sofia arrives from Florida just in time to catch him in the house. Davis is stunned to learn that his "I Quit" song has gone viral on YouTube thanks to his friends' efforts and that his album is selling well as a result, and he realizes with some irony that he now cannot depart the music business after all.

Colson finds drugs planted in his squad car and realizes that most of the department has truly turned on him, and nearly everyone attends the Gigi's benefit, hosted at The Blue Nile but catered by Janette. LaDonna and Davis officially meet for the first time at the event, and Toni bids a fond farewell to L.P. as he heads off in search of his next story. Home alone, Davis sadly listens to Annie's new album, and Hidalgo is shocked when Delmond pointedly returns the $20,000 "consulting fee" given to Albert by Liguori. Agent Collington promises Toni and Abreu that he will seriously investigate the many crimes laid out in L.P.'s article, and LaDonna is disgusted when her case ends in a mistrial. Feeny informs Janette that he "owns" the Desautel's and can easily continue the business without her, and Albert and Delmond officially part company with Mayfield, feeling that his plans are not in the city's best interest. Annie performs at Jazzfest as Janette returns to work as Antoine continues coaching his kids, and Sonny and Linh are finally married in an elegant ceremony. Lamar tells Collington about witnessing Wilson's crimes, and Sofia departs for Florida as Toni and Colson seem to settle into a relationship, though the N.O.P.D. makes it clear that they are still being watched. Albert undergoes further chemo treatments, still working on his costume designs.
