HAVES AND THE HAVE NOTS, THE: NUMBER NINE (TV)
Summary
One in this serialized dramatic series, based on the play by Tyler Perry, about the entanglements of the Cryer, Harrington and Young families. In this episode, Candace bursts into Katheryn's bedroom and reveals her affair with Jim, but Katheryn reacts with scorn, disdainfully informing "Nine" that she is only one in a series of unimportant, low-class mistresses. Jim orders Candace to leave his life for good, threatening to have her killed if she involves Amanda in the scandal, though Candace appears unafraid. Elsewhere, Hanna finds David and begs for his help in securing good legal help for Benny, and though he tries to quickly dismiss her by stating that he is waiting to hear back from various lawyers, he finds himself affected when she asks him to pray with her. Jim find that Katheryn is preparing for a sudden trip on the eve of his campaign announcement, but she refuses to explain her plans when he asks, still disgusted by his latest affair. He protests that he was unaware of Candace's friendship with Amanda, and Katheryn observes that he is unusually fond of Candace and is becoming "reckless" with his cheating.
At work, Jim is surprised to find that David was genuinely convinced by Hanna's request and now wants to help Benny. He argues that the Youngs set him up, but David argues that Candace is "rogue" and that Benny and Hanna are innocent of any wrongdoing. Katheryn guesses that David does not truly intend to help find a lawyer for Benny and assures Hanna that she herself will secure representation. She then informs Hanna that her chemotherapy is not working and that she is scheduled for a mastectomy, unbeknownst to anyone apart from the doctors and the two of them. Candace returns home to Amanda and tersely brushes off her latest law-school worries, and Celine rudely questions Hanna about her plans to "vacation" alone with their boss. Veronica stops by and Katheryn explains that David is ignoring her calls, likely thanks to Jim's interference, and asks her to serve as Benny's lawyer, promising that he is innocent and deserving of her help. Veronica reluctantly agrees to take the case despite her reservations about "those kinds of people," and a relieved Hanna prepares to give her all of the necessary information.
Candace discovers that Amanda received an "A" on her latest law school assignment, but Professor Cannon stops by for a so-called "makeup exam," casually hinting at his past rape of Amanda and making suggestive comments towards Candace as well. She informs him that she has incriminating photographs of him, however, and commands him to leave them both alone and to continue giving Amanda top grades. At the hospital, Hanna confides in a nervous Katheryn about her own experience with breast cancer, and the two bond as Hanna sings a song to comfort her. Back at home, Candace finds that Amanda has intentionally overdosed on her medication. Commercials deleted.
