KEY & PEELE: SERIES PREMIERE (TV)

Summary

The first in this sketch comedy series, created by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, focusing on societal themes and race issues. In this episode, Key and Peele offer intermittent on-stage commentary on such topics as: why they, as biracial men, must often "adjust their blackness" for different surroundings; the escalating weirdness of popular reality television programs; Peele's avoidance of driving and Key's oddly polite "road rage"; an embarrassing encounter with an old school friend; and why they both enjoy "the best of both races."

Pre-taped sketches include the following: two men who adjust their "urban" dialect while passing one another on the street; a pair of friends' desperate attempts to avoid being overheard using a certain unfavorable word about their wives, prompting them to have their conversation in outer space; an installment of "Gideon's Kitchen," in which a chef offers very confusing and extreme praise and scorn for a contestant's dish; diminutive rapper Lil Wayne's misadventures in prison; a commercial for Ancestry.com, in which many black users are surprised to find a connection to Thomas Jefferson; a doctor's annoyance at his marijuana-seeking patient's wildly-exaggerated fake complaints; and an address from the even-tempered President Obama and his "anger translator" Luther. Commercials deleted.
