GAME OF THRONES: OATHKEEPER (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic fantasy series, based on the book series by George R.R. Martin, about the warring royal families of Westeros.

In this episode, as Missandei continues bonding with Grey Worm during their language lessons, the Unsullied sneak into Meereen and arm the slaves, urging them to use their numbers to rise up and defy their masters. Though Ser Barristen advises Daenerys to "answer injustice with mercy," she orders 163 slave masters to be crucified, one for every slave child seen murdered on the road to the city. Bronn, still trying to retrain Jaime, opines that Tyrion is innocent of Joffrey's murder; Jaime finally visits his brother in his prison cell, where Tyrion cynically points out that Cersei intends to murder him – and Sansa – regardless of the outcome of his trial. Elsewhere, Lord Baelish informs Sansa that he is taking her to the Eyrie, where he intends to wed her Aunt Lysa; he confirms that he assisted in the sadistic boy king's murder via the necklace given to Sansa by Dontos, hinting that his "new friends" are much better allies than the Lannisters.

Back in King's Landing, Olenna prepares to depart for Highgarden, casually informing a shocked Margaery that she was indeed behind "that beast's" murder. At Castle Black, Jon's training of the new recruits, including Locke, is interrupted by Allister Thorne, who coldly reminds him that he is a mere steward; Janos Slynt suggests sending the well-liked Jon to his presumable death at the now-occupied Craster's Keep before he can be elected as the new Lord Commander. Cersei, is obsessed with Tommen's safety and disgusted that Jaime still intends to keep his vow to the deceased Cat Stark to return her daughters safely to Winterfell, Cersei orders him to track down and murder Sansa, though Jaime insists that both she and Tyrion are innocent. Margaery pays her young fiancé a late-night visit, suggesting that they must keep their "little secrets" from his domineering mother.

Jaime dispatches Brienne to find and protect Sansa and arms her with the Valyrian blade, which she solemnly dubs "Oathkeeper." The two bid one another a sad farewell as Brienne departs King's Landing with her new squire, Podrick Payne, in tow. Sam frets about Gilly's safety in Mole's Town as Thorne instructs Jon to return to Craster's Keep, and Jon recruits Grenn, Dolorous Edd and Locke, among others. At the Keep, Karl and his men eat and drink their fill as they abuse Craster's remaining wives; when Craster's last infant son is discovered, one of the wives explains that boy children are typically "offered" to the gods. Elsewhere in the forest, Bran wargs into Summer and races through the forest, eventually finding his brother's direwolf, Ghost, captive at the Keep. When Bran, Hodor, Jojen and Meera are captured by Karl's men, Bran is forced to admit his identity as the heir to Winterfell. Elsewhere, the Craster baby is discovered by the White Walkers' fearsome leader, the Night King, who transforms the infant into one of his blue-eyed soldiers with a single touch.
