PIONEER AUDIO COMPONENTS: SONNY ROLLINS {ART
DIRECTORS CLUB, 1978: 57TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION, REEL
1 OF 4}

Summary

In this commercial for Pioneer, jazz artist Sony Rollins plays his saxophone alone at night on the footpath that stretches across the Brooklyn Bridge. Although he had been a successful professional for twelve years, Rollins was dissatisfied with his playing, so he decided to withdraw from the public to perfect his technique. "Night after night," the announcer says, "he blew his music to the stars . . . and today, Sonny Rollins is, at last, good enough." Pioneer understands this sort of uncompromising commitment to music, which is why Pioneer components are designed to let you hear everything a musician puts into a recording. Slogan: "Pioneer. We bring it back alive."
