MARRIED PEOPLE: DANCE TEN, FRIENDS ZERO (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy television series about the lives of three couples living in a brownstone in New York City. In this episode, after the neighbors interrupt Olivia's rendition of "Amazing Grace," she heads off to choir rehearsal with her new friend Annette. At the diner, Madeline is excited to read about an open call for a new Broadway musical, and Russell, fresh from an embarrassing racquetball game with Allen, informs the waitresses that he knows the show's choreographer, Maurice, from college. Back at home, Olivia angrily tells Nick that "scheming little weasel" Annette has stolen "her" solo in "Amazing Grace," and when Cindy happily declares that she too is auditioning for the show, Allen privately asks Russell to put in a good word for her with his old friend. Elizabeth immediately guesses that Russell is not as close with Maurice as he claims, and this is proven to be true when Russell's phone calls to the well-known choreographer go ignored.
Cindy is soon delighted to receive a callback, and Russell opts not to come clean about his non-assistance in the matter. Allen, however, tells her about his well-intentioned actions, and Cindy is upset to realize that she only received the callback as a personal favor and vows not to attend. Elizabeth, seeing Cindy's depressing over her apparent lack of talent, urges Russell to tell the truth, though he is annoyed to ruin his status as a "big shot" at the diner. At the same time, Olivia invites the choir director, Burt, over for dinner and a bit of brown-nosing, though Annette soon crashes the affair and begins trading insults with Olivia. Cindy is delighted to learn that Russell did not talk to Maurice after all and heads to the callback, though Russell soon arrives onstage to confront Maurice, annoyed that he has been forgotten. Though embarrassed by her "friend's" antics, Cindy performs her dance routine and earns the part, while elsewhere an exasperated Burt finally suggests that the two women duet on "Amazing Grace," and they soon discover that they sound even better together than separately. Commercials deleted.
