STEP BY STEP: COLLEGE BOUND (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about divorced father-of-three Frank Lambert and widowed mother-of-three Carol Foster who bring their families together when they marry. In this episode, Cody tries his hand at postal delivery and J.T. is excited to receive a credit card in the mail, though Frank worries that he will learn a hard lesson about frivolous spending. Carol excitedly prepares for Dana's first day of college, though Dana is less than thrilled about attending a "rinky-dink" state school, annoyed that her family could not afford Harvard. As Mark "helps" Brendan with his homework, they are surprised when J.T.'s many extravagant purchases are delivered to the house, and no one is convinced by his explanation of his worry-free fiscal plan. At school, Dana is pleased when she is held back after class, sure that she is going to be praised for her exceptional intellect, but she is stunned when her professor gives her a D on her first paper, which he calls "supercilious crap."

Frank and Carol are shocked to find that J.T. has racked up vast charges on his many credit cards and declare that his purchases must go back, though Carol is reluctant to return an elegant fur coat. Karen and Alicia react gleefully when they find Dana's "D" paper, and Dana complains to her mother that the professor is unfair and the school is beneath her. Carol, however, chastises Dana for her egotistical attitude. Later, Carol bids farewell to the fur coat and Dana apologizes, admitting that she was being overly proud. Carol assures her that her school is a good one that does not accept "just anybody," though this is called into question when Cody happily announces that he too has enrolled. J.T. assures Frank that he has learned his lesson about financial responsibility, though Frank makes it clear that he will not be trusted with another credit card any time soon.
