GARGOYLES: THE AWAKENING, PART 4 (TV)
Summary
One in this animated series about a cadre of centuries-old gargoyles living in secret in modern-day New York City. Continued from B:38692. Detective Maza frees herself and saves Goliath. They escape, but Goliath is still weak from the tranquilizer. Detective Maza finds a transmitter placed on Goliath and disposes of it, diverting the attackers. The other gargoyles return from their exploration of the city just before sunrise, worried because of Goliath's absence. The sun rises while Goliath is still in the park and he turns to stone. Detective Maza is forced to lead the thieves on a chase through the park, incapacitating them one by one as they go. After a struggle she manages to defeat all of them and returns to Goliath. She stays by his side until the sun sets and he reawakens completely healed. Goliath thanks Detective Maza for protecting him and promises to meet her later that night. He returns to the other gargoyles, relieved that he is safe. Upon learning that Hudson picked a name for himself, the other gargoyles decide to follow suit, calling themselves "Brooklyn," "Broadway," and "Lexington." The gargoyle "watchdog" is given the name "Bronx." Xanatos calls Goliath into his office, where he reveals Goliath's mate, alive and well. She explains that a thousand years ago she left the castle to look for Goliath and was caught in the sunrise. When she returned the Magus had already placed the gargoyles in his spell, and she begged him to do the same for her. She stayed in that form until Xanatos purchased her from a museum and brought her to the castle to be revived. She convinces Goliath to agree to Xanatos's request to retrieve the stolen disks. After a conference with Xanatos, Goliath separates the gargoyles into three teams: he and his mate will infiltrate an "air-fortress," Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington will infiltrate a tower in the bay, and Hudson and Bronx will attack an underground base in the subway system. They all set off on their missions. Goliath and his mate break into the "air-fortress" and are attacked by guards. Goliath is distressed to learn that his mate has worsened her attitude towards humans; he takes particular exception when she nearly drops one out of the air-fortress. She comments that he has become "weak." The episode ends as Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington infiltrate the tower, only to be greeted by a hallway full of armed guards. Commercials deleted. Concludes in B:38691.
