Summary
One in this comedy series about the host of a cable television fix-it show and his wife and three sons.
Tool Time is going on a two-week hiatus, and Al is somewhat depressed; he is having something of a mid-life crisis, feeling as though he is a failure because he is uncreative and still single. However, Tim gives him hope when he reminds him of one of his abandoned projects, a Tool Time-based board game. Al takes Tim’s advice too far when he invests his entire life savings in marketing the board game, and Tim tries to talk some sense into him. However, Al is adamant about his venture and even reveals that he intends to finally propose to Ilene. Ilene, however, is concerned about Al’s behavior and apparent financial instability, and Jill advises that she may want to consider other options. However, Jill reverses her position when Tim confides in her about Al’s upcoming proposal. Jill indirectly reveals this news to Ilene, who is overjoyed at the news.
Mark, Jill, and Tim sit down to test out the board game and inadvertently discover that it contains a part which is prone to spontaneous combustion. Tim calls Al to inform him of his discovery, but his phone lines are busy; Tim and Jill are concerned that Al will lose his life savings due to customer refunds. Tim visits Al and points out the defect, causing Al to panic. They try to visit the manufacturer to straighten things out, but find that he has been arrested by the police for unsafe business practices. Al is crushed, believing that his life is ruined and that he is no longer in a position to propose to Ilene. That night, Tim stays up late fixing the motor in the board game and tries to determine how he can fix all of them in the next two days. Tim supervises as he and his family and friends work to repair all of the games, and Al is touched by their kindness. Al takes the opportunity to propose to Ilene, and she accepts.
