BRADY BUNCH, THE: GOING, GOING ... STEADY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a woman with three daughters who marries a man with three sons.
Marcia is behaving oddly, and Carol determines that she has a crush on a boy; the rest of the family soon notices as well. The object of her affection is Harvey Klinger, whom Greg describes in unfavorable terms. Marcia is upset that Harvey doesn’t seem to notice her; Alice goes up to offer some advice about falling in love, but it doesn’t seem to help. Alice, Carol, and Mike determine that Marcia should try to share in Harvey’s hobbies to get him to notice her. Harvey has an interest in entomology, and so Carol helps Marcia study books on insects. She uses her newfound knowledge to get Harvey’s attention, and he seems to appreciate her interest.
After school Marcia runs home and excitedly announces that Harvey has asked to go steady with Marcia, which makes Carol uneasy. She feels that Marcia is taking things too quickly, and is also reluctant to tell Mike about it, fearful that he might not take the news well. Alice gets her to finally confront Mike about it, but he is not worried at all, and believes that going steady with Harvey would be harmless. As Marcia and Harvey spend more time together they provoke mockery from her siblings due to their insect-related discussions. Soon Marcia considers herself to be more “adult” and believes she no longer has time for her siblings. Carol becomes concerned when Marcia starts experimenting with makeup and false eyelashes, and is more concerned when Marcia says that Harvey believes they should be acting far older than their ages would suggest. In order to teach them a lesson, Mike and Carol question Harvey and Marcia about more adult responsibilities, such as careers and marriage plans, which quickly discourages Marcia and Harvey from their more “adult” line of thinking. They decide to treat their relationship in a more age-appropriate fashion. Soon Marcia has broken up with Harvey and goes out with a succession of other boys. Commercials deleted.
