XIAN SHIBIAN {XIAN INCIDENT, THE} {#6} {MANDARIN CHINESE} {MOTION PICTURE}
Summary
Japanese invaders, after occupying China's vast territory of the Northeast, maintained their aggressive war in north China. During this time, Chiang kai Shek was still insisting on his policy of engaging civil war. On December 12, 1936, generals Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng arrested Chiang in Xi'an City, and remonstrated him for the change in policy. Zhou Enlai went to Xi'an as the representative of CPC, to help resolve the crises. The shocking Xi'an Incident was settled in peace which brought about a new period of renewed cooperation between the KMT and the CPC.
