LATE LATE SHOW WITH TOM SNYDER, THE {DREW BARRYMORE; SHERYL CROW, TONY BENNETT, KEN HAMBLIN} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk shows hosted by Tom Snyder. This episode’s guests include actress Drew Barrymore, singers Sheryl Crow and Tony Bennett, and radio talk show host Ken Hamblin.
The first guest, Barrymore, discusses doing a nude photo shoot for the January 1995 issue of Playboy; why she felt "safe" while shooting with Playboy's photographer; the pressure of being an in-demand actress after shooting "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" as a seven-year-old; how she decided which personal anecdotes to put in her 1991 autobiography "Little Girl Lost," which she co-wrote with Todd Gold; moving into a new home with her current boyfriend, musician Eric Erlandson; making her new film "Boys on the Side" with Whoopi Goldberg, Mary-Louise Parker, and Matthew McConaughey; her reflections on shooting a love scene with Tom Skerritt in the 1992 film "Poison Ivy"; and what she learned from working with Jim Carrey in 1995's "Batman Forever."
Next, Snyder shows footage of having talked with Sheryl Crow and Tony Bennett after they became winners at the 37th Grammy Awards earlier that evening. Crow tells about having just won Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; having brought her grandmother to the ceremony; growing up with parents that were musicians; and her immediate plans to celebrate her victories. Bennett addresses having just won Album of the Year; the satisfaction of having a successful career comeback; his large number of youthful fans after recently working with MTV; his abilities as a painter; growing up in Astoria, Queens; and his two grown sons' effect on his resurgence.
The final guest, Hamblin, joins Snyder to discuss his radio-host moniker as "Black Avenger"; being Snyder's first "repeat guest"; his status as a conservative commentator; why America can never be viewed as a centrist nation; the reason that he considers journalist Cokie Roberts to be "an arrogant totem pole with no clue about America"; the problems caused by being politically correct; why politicians aren't in touch with what the public wants; whether a constitutional amendment will be passed to balance America's budget; the media's "terrorization" of newly elected GOP members; and why the National Black Caucus wants him taken off the air.
