BATMAN: RATS LIKE CHEESE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy adventure programs about the Batman, a crimefighting superhero, and his youthful sidekick Robin.
Continued from "Instant Freeze" (For synopsis and credits, see B:87460). The frozen bodies of Batman and Robin are taken to a special de-icing chamber at Gotham City Hospital in the hopes of thawing them out. Eventually they are restored to health and Mr. Freeze learns of their recuperation. Bruce Wayne attends the charity baseball game with Princess Sandra, both watching from his private box. An announcement is made that Gotham’s star pitcher, Paul Diamante, has mysteriously gone missing, and Bruce suspects that Mr. Freeze is to blame. Bruce and Dick abruptly leave the game and investigate the matter as Batman and Robin. Mr. Freeze calls Commissioner Gordon, Chief O’Hara, Batman, and Robin and reveals that he has kidnapped Diamante. He offers to release Diamante only if Batman surrenders himself in exchange. Batman is given a meeting-place and insists upon going alone, foregoing Robin’s help.
However, Robin surreptitiously places a tracking device on Batman in order to determine his whereabouts. Diamante is delivered to Batman in a remote forested location via helicopter. Batman is knocked unconscious by Mr. Freeze’s men and carried off in the helicopter. Robin arrives immediately thereafter and frees Diamante, running off to track down Batman. Later, Batman awakens in Mr. Freeze’s lair without access to his utility belt. He is confined to one particular section of a room via Mr. Freeze’s ability to selectively create areas of normal temperature in his otherwise completely frigid lair. Batman attempts to attack Mr. Freeze anyway, but is incapacitated by the sudden change in temperature. Mr. Freeze chooses to allow Batman to live for the time being, explaining that he will kill him at a later time. He forces Batman into another room, where he reveals that he has captured Robin as well.
Mr. Freeze hosts a dinner for the three of them, and refuses Batman’s offer to help find a cure for his condition. Batman and Robin make an attempt to attack Mr. Freeze, but are repulsed back by the cold. Mr. Freeze reverts sections of the room to their sub-zero state, leaving only Robin in a zone of normal temperature as Batman begins to freeze to death. However, Batman suddenly disables Mr. Freeze and takes control of his temperature-control device, revealing that he was in no danger due to special equipment he had prepared for his confrontation with Mr. Freeze. They are attacked by Mr. Freeze’s men, but manage to defeat them, and Mr. Freeze is arrested by the police. Commercials deleted.
