PALEY CENTER FOR MEDIA, THE: MEDIA AS ENTERTAINMENT: AN EVENING WITH PETER CINCOTTI {LONG VERSION}

Summary

One in a series of evenings and special screenings presented as part of The Paley Center for Media’s Media as Entertainment series. This evening, held at The Paley Center for Media in New York, honors Peter Cincotti, singer and jazz/pop pianist. Pat Mitchell (President, C.E.O. The Paley Center for Media) begins by offering opening remarks before introducing a series of clips displaying some of Cincotti’s musical inspirations. Clips are interspersed throughout, including: Nat “King” Cole singing “Walkin’ My Baby Back Home” on “The Jackie Gleason Show” (1952); Jerry Lee Lewis on “The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beechnut Show” singing “Breathless” (1958); a retrospective about Ray Charles on “American Masters” (1991); and selections from “Beyond the Sea,” Kevin Spacey’s biopic of Bobby Darin (2004). Mitchell then introduces Cincotti and invites him up to the stage. Topics of discussion include: Cincotti’s rise to prominence at a young age; the continual evolution of his musical style; Cincotti’s reactions at being compared to Frank Sinatra; his role in the film “Beyond the Sea”; and Cincotti’s forthcoming CD entitled “East of Angel Town.” Cincotti and his band perform several tracks from his new album “East of Angel Town,” including: “Angel Town;” “Goodbye Philadelphia;” “Be Careful;” “Cinderella Beautiful;” “December Boys;” and “Make It Out Alive.”
