OCTOBER ROAD: ONCE AROUND THE BLOCK (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about a young novelist who returns to his hometown to teach at a local college after having written a tell-all book about the locals. Hannah leaves the kids in the care of her friend Hippy Bob while she takes her vet-tech exam. Nick feels bad for Ronnie and urges him to get out of the house to try to get back into the dating scene. The Commander notes that Nick also needs to start dating, but Nick claims he needs a “girl vacation” in order to collect himself. Eddie and Owen convince Phil to show Pizza Girl the pristine classic car he keeps in his garage, which he has nicknamed “Klauss” and has spent years restoring. Big Cat’s ex-wife Christine, a hand surgeon, finds Hannah out at a restaurant with the kids and demands to take them back with her immediately; they reveal that Bob got them temporary tattoos while Hannah was taking her test. Christine criticizes Hannah’s parenting decisions before taking Jasper and Casper away; she is also furious about hearing about Hannah and Big Cat’s engagement secondhand. Nick takes Ronnie out to a bar where they run into Aubrey and her friend Taylor. They sit down for drinks; Ronnie is attracted to Aubrey but does not say anything. Hannah decides to have a yard sale, and Janet correctly deduces that she is intimidated by Christine. Big Cat doesn’t see the need for Hannah to have a job, but accedes to her wishes. Privately, Hannah has something of an inferiority complex regarding Christine. Ronnie takes to Aubrey but Nick keeps trying to set him up with Taylor. Pizza Girl tries to convince Phil to take Klauss out for a drive, hoping to use it as a means of getting him to leave the house. Nick proposes to Aubrey that they can remain friends, free of the complications of their relationship. Ronnie runs into Ikey at the bar, who immediately discerns that Ronnie is in love with Aubrey. Ronnie denies this, but Ikey says he’ll be there for him when he’s ready to admit it. Hannah speaks in front of Sam’s class as part of a career day at his school. She is interrupted when Christine enters, seemingly for the sole purpose of putting on her presentation out of schedule, thus upstaging Hannah. Hannah decides to back down and allow Christine to speak instead of her. Sam talks to her about the incident later, letting Hannah know that the interruption was purposeful and not, as she claimed, an accident. Nick meets with Aubrey to discuss their plan to set up Ronnie and Taylor, and they decide to all go out bowling together. Hannah visits Christine to confront her personally about her interrupting her presentation, but Christine retorts by taunting Hannah over her teen pregnancy and current veterinary occupation. Hannah gets Christine to admit that despite having left Big Cat she now wants him back. During their bowling outing Nick is convinced Ronnie likes Taylor, but in truth he is still pining for Aubrey. Taylor invites Ronnie to her house, and he is nervous about the whole thing. Phil and Pizza Girl manage to get Klauss working. Christine arrives at Hannah’s yard sale to pick up her kids and continues to make fun of her, although when she calls Sam a “bastard” Hannah punches her in the face, knocking her to the ground. Nick invites Aubrey to play board games with him, the Commander, and Owen that night. She criticizes Nick for treating her poorly when he changed his mind about Hannah, and can’t forgive him for breaking her heart and expecting her to play along with his “friending” idea. Pizza Girl continues to try to convince Phil to take Klauss out for a spin. Hannah talks to Big Cat about his marriage to Christine, and he claims that he was more than happy to be rid of her. Ronnie and Taylor make out in her house, but he suddenly breaks it off, feeling uncomfortable. Nick visits Aubrey, confessing that he was wrong and that they should resume their relationship; she takes to this decision readily and they have sex. Phil finally relents and drives around the block in Klauss with Pizza Girl, but during their drive Klauss breaks down. Ronnie decides to talk to Ikey about his predicament. Includes commercials.
