Summary

Part two of this two-part program in this series which profiles legendary singers, musicians, and composers. Vocalist/pianist Michael Feinstein hosts this tribute to "one of America's greatest contributions to the world of music" -- composer George Gershwin. Highlights include the following: Feinstein comments on George and Ira Gershwin's final collaboration, "Our Love Is Here To Stay"; the host acclaims Gershwin's flair as a pianist; biographer Ed Jablonski defends Gershwin from charges that he was unable to play other composers' music proficiently; Feinstein recalls which composers had influenced Gershwin; the host asserts that jealousy had caused many to attack Gershwin's "serious" music; Feinstein remembers Ira's remarks about George's personal life and his unresolved emotions about George's death. Also includes a recording of Oscar Levant playing a medley of passages from Gershwin tunes on the piano, while recalling the late composer.
