MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO, THE: ROCK 'N' ROLL AND RADIO: PACKAGE #6: ROCK 'N' ROLL IS HERE TO STAY, II: THE PERSONALITY JOCKS

Summary

The sixth "Rock 'n' Roll and Radio" listening series package presented by The Museum of Television & Radio. "Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay" consists of "An Overview" of the series and two radio programs.

The "Overview" (running time: 22:00) -- hosted by venerable disc jockey Dave Herman -- traces the musical roots of rock 'n' roll, and how the radio medium and this hybrid of rhythm 'n' blues and country music influenced each other through the decades.

The first classic radio program (running time: 29:39) is hosted by deejay Elliott Field on KFWB ("channel" 98) in Los Angeles in 1959. The "KFWB Fabulous Forty" played the most popular songs of the era, with Field using an array of voices to introduce songs, do live commercials, and conduct listener contests. Music in this segment includes: "The Little Space Girl" (Jesse Lee Turner), "Stagger Lee" (Lloyd Price), "My Man" (Peggy Lee), "La Bamba" (Ritchie Valens), "First Anniversary" (Cathy Carr), "One Night" (Elvis Presley). Includes commercials.

The second program (running time: 54:35) is "The Dick Biondi Show: Second Anniversary Show." This 1962 program celebrates the second anniversary of the Dick Biondi radio show from Chicago's WLS. Biondi -- the self-proclaimed "ugliest disc jockey in radio" -- plays selections of folk, rhythm 'n' blues, and rock 'n' roll music in addition to presenting live commercials and making announcements about events in the Chicago area. Music includes: "I'm On My Way" (The Highwaymen), "The Limbo Rock" (The Champs), "We Girls" (Jan Bradley), "So This Is Love" (The Castells), "Village of Love," (Nathaniel Mayer), "Oh My Angel" (Bertha Tillman), "Playboy" (The Marvelettes),"Theme from Ben Casey" (Valjean), "Itty Bitty Pieces" (James Ray), "Doctor Feel-Good" (Dr. Feelgood and the Interns), and "My Heart Goes Running Back to You" (Nick Noble). Includes commercials.
