Summary
One in this series of comedy/variety programs hosted by Steve Allen. Highlights of this program include the following: NBC's chief architect (who looks uncannily like Louis Nye) discusses the conversion of the show's studio from a legitimate theater with Steve Allen; Allen plays a mambo number on the piano during the "Crazy Shots" segment of blackout comedy bits; in a sneak preview of a rehearsal of the upcoming television special "Producers' Showcase: Jack and the Beanstalk," Joel Grey, Celeste Holm, and Cyril Ritchard perform "Twelve Feet Tall" from NBC's Brooklyn studio (and cast members Peggy King, Arnold Stang, and Leora Dana may be glimpsed); Buster Crabbe joins Steve for a sketch called "Ye Olde Space Cadette," a send-up of early children's television sci-fi serials; Georgia Gibbs sings "Tra La La" and Cole Porter's "Let's Do It"; actress Anita Ekberg and her husband, actor Anthony Steel, surprise Steve Allen with a lavish Swedish smorgasbord and Anita insists that the host gulp down a large glass of aquavit in traditional fashion; Ekberg and Allen perform a duet of "Tea for Two" in Swedish, accompanied by Skitch Henderson on the harpsichord; and Jerry Lewis makes a special appearance, discusses his new album called "Jerry Lewis Just Sings," and clowns around with Allen as they listen to a cut from the record.
