MURPHY BROWN: RESPECT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere of this comedy series about Murphy Brown, a high-profile, successful broadcast newswoman, and her colleagues at the news magazine "FYI." In this episode, Murphy returns from a month-long stay at the Betty Ford Clinic only to face frustrations at home concerning the workman who fails to show up to do the paint job on her house, and at work, where she must deal with major personnel changes. The hot-tempered Brown is slow to warm up to the new employees, including the youthful, new executive producer, Miles Silverberg, but opens up to him when she learns that he's gotten a hot lead on a national story and has arranged an interview with Bobby Powell, who is rumored to have had an affair with a vice presidential candidate who is a married woman. Murphy is confronted with the dilemma of whether or not to take the assignment and risk her professional integrity as a reporter when she learns that Powell agreed to the interview on the condition that he will not discuss the affair.
