ALL NEW THIS OLD HOUSE, THE: TRUMP TOWER {GUESTS: DONALD AND IVANA TRUMP} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of programs demonstrating home
repairs. In this episode, host Bob Vila visits New York
City to examine the architecture of Trump Tower. Before
heading into Manhattan, Vila talks with master carpenter
Norm Abram about the status of a house they are building
from scratch. Then, Vila joins Der Scutt, chief
architect of Trump Tower. Topics discussed include:
the number of floors for public, private, and office
use; the building that was originally at the site of
Trump Tower; height and aesthetic considerations that
are made before drawing up blueprints; introducing a
tall-scale building to an avenue with short ones; the
reason glass was used instead of traditional stone; the
glorious views from the apartments; property taxes and
maintenance fees per year for the apartments; and the
public atrium, which was designed to reflect the
constant motion of New York City. Next, Vila talks with
Ivana Trump about the cost of furnishing an apartment as
they tour two furnished abodes. The program concludes
with an interview with Donald Trump. Topics discussed
include: the origins of the tower; the biggest problem
they faced in construction; and affordable, luxury
housing is still possible in New York City. This
program is closed-captioned.
Cataloging of this program has been made possible by
