TEENAGE REVOLUTION (TV)
Summary
This documentary, narrated by Van Heflin, examines the lifestyles, accomplishments, concerns, and problems of a wide cross-section of teenagers in the mid-1960s. The narrator notes that a segment of society which is too young to vote is having a great influence on the entire population; teen-influenced fashions, cars, hairstyles, and music are explored as well as such issues as civil rights and the war on poverty. Also highlighted are several teenagers' academic and athletic achievements. Includes interviews with or footage of the following people: 25-year-old "teen sound" music mogul Phil Spector, who discusses the creation of emotional music for an emotional generation; the rock group The Bushmen, who appear on tour; 17-year-old Eva Sorenson, who discusses dating and friendship; 17-year-old John Link, a National Science Award-winner who works with radioisotopes; teenager Henry Heim, who dropped out of school at 15 to begin working; 16-year-old world class swimmer Cathy Ferguson, who won two events at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo; and 19-year-old Steve Madson and his wife, Jean, who have been married for two years. Some topics discussed include the emerging computerized society; juvenile delinquency; the efforts to encourage a multilingual youth; teenage volunteers who work with underprivileged children in Los Angeles during the summer; and the commitment of young people to political change and the civil rights movement. Includes commercials, promos, and a public service announcement.
