I LOVE LUCY: LUCY HIRES AN ENGLISH TUTOR (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about the escapades of Lucy Ricardo, a zany redheaded housewife with show business aspirations, her Cuban-born bandleader husband Ricky Ricardo, and their best friends and neighbors Fred and Ethel Mertz. In this episode, Lucy hires a tutor to teach them all "proper" English. As Lucy and Ricky anticipate the birth of their baby, they discuss the baby's gender and their views on child-rearing. Lucy begins to worry about the responsibilities of raising a child, and decides that in order to raise a well-educated child, she must first educate herself. Part of Lucy's plan is to teach the child proper English, a particular concern of hers since Ricky's English is heavily accented. Her solution is to hire an English tutor, Mr. Livermore, who will provide lessons in exchange for a chance to perform at Ricky's nightclub, the Tropicana. The results are distastrous. The snobbish tutor is horrified by their accents and their use of slang, and Ricky is shocked when he finds out about the deal Lucy has made with the tutor. Ricky and the tutor then arrange their own deal. But in the end, the tables are turned, when in his excitement over performing, Mr. Livermore loses control over his proper English accent. Includes commercials and promos.
