Summary
Part two of three. Based on the events of the 17th-century Salem witch-hunts that resulted in the trial and subsequent hanging of 20 innocent people, this program probes the climate in which hysteria -- borne of superstition and malevolence -- took root and grew in the fledgling New England community. In the true story of Sarah Cloyce, whose sisters were falsely accused of and hanged for witchcraft, Sarah is determined to posthumously clear them of the false charges and appears before a special magistrate to give a retrospective account of the events of the preceding 10 years. In this part, she recalls her sister Rebecca's trial and her incarceration. Soon after, the defiant Sarah is herself arrested for allegedly practicing witchcraft. As the slanderous accusations increase, so do the number of individuals confined to the crowded Salem jail. Includes a promo for the following week's production of "Three Sovereigns For Sarah."
