MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO SEMINAR SERIES, THE: MURPHY BROWN {LONG VERSION}

Summary

One in this series of seminars conducted by The Museum of Television & Radio. This seminar, held in New York and moderated by Museum president Robert M. Batscha, features a question-and-answer session with the cast and the executive producers of "Murphy Brown," a situation comedy about a high-profile, successful broadcast newswoman and her colleagues at the news magazine "FYI." Batscha introduces a compilation of segments from the last three seasons of "Murphy Brown." Afterwards, he introduces the panel: actors Pat Corley, Faith Ford, Charles Kimbrough, Robert Pastorelli, Joe Regalbuto, Grant Shaud, and Candice Bergen; and executive producers Joel Shukovsky and Diane English. English, who compiled the tape that was screened, explains how she chose the clips. Batscha then opens the seminar to questions from the audience, and the following topics are discussed, among others: practical jokes among the cast members and the horsing around that takes place on set; the program's production schedule; the writing of the show; the creation of the series; the experience of working with Colleen Dewhurst, who played Murphy's mother; the manner in which each actor first approached his or her role; the public response to Murphy's pregnancy; and the ways in which the actors resemble or differ from the characters they play.
