Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. On the eve of the Solidarity uprising in Poland, Halina Nowak (Czyzewska) escapes with her musically talented son, Jacek (Mitchell), to Washington, D.C., with hopes of starting a better life. Soon, the ambitious Halina moves up from cleaning woman to anchorwoman at the Voice of America, but Jacek finds success and integration into the foreign culture more difficult.
